Yesterday, one member of our team went to the second day of 87th Comiket (Comic Market).
For the few of you who have no idea (or only have a slight idea of) what Comiket is, I’ll take the lazy approach and direct you to read the Wikipedia article. In short, it a biannual fair celebrating Japanese independent creators. This covers authors of comics, games, music, voice acting, photography and many more.
I’ll try to make our attendee write up a post about his impressions. Even though this wasn’t his first time attending, I’m sure this refreshed his memories of long lines and huge crowds.
I’ll leave you with this photo taken yesterday of the iconic Tokyo Big Sight conference center, that has for a while now been seen as a symbol of Comiket:
P.S. Of course we’ll also be attending the third day.
Greetings from 4chan, Why you dont guys have a better description in the about page of what are you trying to do?
Things like how much money the artist recives and how do you contact them.
Hello, anon, and thanks for the feedback.
Our About Us page is a bit dry, true. I’ll look into improving it a bit.
Unfortunately, we can’t really disclose the terms of our agreement with the authors. NDA and stuff.
I can only say that they get a cut of every sale.
I answered some other questions in the sadpanda thread, check it out.
I’ve been an avid reader of doujins/doujinshis for few years now and I can honestly say that what you guys are doing is an amazing thing. I mean no one has had the determination to set up and tackle something this ambitious. Having to support my favorite artists can be a hassle most of the times as I have to deal with go through complicated proxy’s and what not. Having you guys close the gap and make it so that I can purchase English translated doujins with no censorship is unreal. Not only that but I also get to directly support the artists as well as this amazing project/company fills me with joy beyond words. I’m overjoyed to be a part of this community and seeing it grow is phenomenal. I’m looking forward to seeing the growth in your library as well as the expansion of your company. You guys have my full support and I cannot wait to see what lies in store.
Thanks a lot for your support.
There’s a thin line between “determined” and “crazy” in our case, but we appreciate the compliment 🙂
You’re absolutely right. When I was at Comiket for the first time, I went crazy with purchases precisely because that was my first opportunity to directly support my favorite artists (I also ended up supporting the airliner on my flight back because my luggage went over the weight limit, but that’s beside the point).
There are tons of people outside of Japan willing to support the doujinshi authors. We’re only trying to provide a convenient platform. And uncensored art in particular is something that we’re really excited to be able to bring over.
Whether it’s crazy or determination what you guys are doing is still amazing!
I really cannot wait to move to Japan after college. Going to Comiket is one of the things I look forward to going to most while I live there.
Absolutely, your platform is very convenient! As for uncensored + translation it doesn’t get any better than that and like I said before I cannot wait for your library to expand and support you guys & the artists! Keep up the great work you guys!
It would be cool if maybe sometime we could talk about our favorite artists and about the whole community as a whole, together maybe through Skype, G+ Hangouts or something. Don’t know if that’s something you would do but having other people / friends to talk to about one of your favorite interests is awesome. ^^
Also, when do you think you guys will be posting about your members’ experience at C87? I’d like to see pictures! 😀
