2016: Looking back

Hello everyone, in the first post of 2017! Last year, we’ve had our yearly write up post in February, so it looks like we’re getting better with keeping up a schedule.

We would like to use this post to write a sort of recap of what we achieved this year, while in a next post (coming up in a day or two), we’ll write about our plans for 2017. Expect some exciting announcements in that one! But first, let’s take a look at what happened this year in the world of 2D Market:

The year didn’t start in a good way. Almost immediately after making a bunch of new announcements in February, we lost our payment gateway, effectively leaving us with Bitcoin as the only purchase option. While we used this period productively and implemented a proper cart system for our shop, this was a really bad situation to be in and we scrambled to find a new payment gateway asap. Unfortunately, it took us until April to get the ball rolling again. Once it started though, it did so with a bang: we published our first doujinshi from the famous and renowned circle Fatalpulse, Victim Girls 12.

Shortly after that, we added an e-wallet system to our site. With it in place, we were ready to get serious and start publishing more doujinshi. We decided to publish a single doujinshi every week, and were able to keep that schedule from May all the way to November.

From May to August we released 13 books:

In August, we announced 3 more circles that were to appear on our site: Yuusaritsukata, AobaQMadou and sin-maniax.

From August to November, we published 18 more books:

While all this was happening, our japanese staff was attending Japanese doujinshi conventions, including Comiket, Futaket, Sunshine Creation, Comitia and Comic1, working on getting more authors interested in the international market. We will continue doing so in the following year and we hope the fruits of our labor will allow even more doujinshi authors to reach out to international audiences.

And none of this would be possible without you, the fans and readers of Japanese doujinshi. From the whole 2D Market staff, a wholehearted thank you!

Stay tuned for our next post, in which we’ll talk about our plans for 2017.
