2016 announcements part 1: Shouwa Saishuu Sensen

For our first announcement of the year 2016, we’ve chosen to present you a circle with a human face. If you count the FemHero from DQ as a human, that is. If you look at the circle Shouwa Saishuu Sensen (meaning “Last battlefront of Shouwa era”) twitter, pixiv or niconico profile, you will notice a distinct pattern of a well-endowed, long haired, blue garment wearing girl being in every profile picture and every customizable design element. Obviously inspired by the DQ3 heroine, this character has become a poster girl for the circle, and a protagonist of their 9-issues long series of doujinshi.

Can’t blame them, the design is delicious

In addition to the series featuring their poster girl, Hanauna, the artist behind Showa Saishuu Sensen, has drawn several other doujinshi, mostly featuring KanColle characters. They are all characterized by well-endowed protagonists, a (usually dark) sense of humor and plenty of hot, steamy situations. Hanauna’s art is very striking and expressive, and goes well with situations where the protagonist girl gets bullied, which tends to happen quite a lot in his doujinshi.

We will bring several Shuowa Saishuu Sensen doujinshi to 2D market in their full uncensored glory. Work has already begun on a KanColle doujinshi featuring Noshiro, but we’ll also bring make sure to translate at least one doujinshi featuring the circle’s poster girl.

If the images in this post have convinced you of the greatness of Hanauna’s art to such an extent that you started throwing your wallet at your computer screen, first of all, please stop, as it can only take as much punishment before it starts getting dead pixels. If you never heard of it, Enty is basically a Japan-based Patreon and follows the same principles: for a monthly patronage, you receive access to high-resolution images, WIP sketches and such.

The first year of 2D Market

As February goes rolling by, we’re slowly approaching the first birthday of 2D Market. Granted, if you dig through our Twitter feed, you’ll notice that our first tweet was from late 2012. That’s a long time time ago, but it shows how long we’ve been working on this project. However, it wasn’t until the end of February of last year that we (somewhat unceremoniously) launched and started proving the English-speaking community with a legal way to directly support the Japanese independant artists.

So, looking back at our first year, what can we say that we accomplished?

We’ve launched with 13 doujinshi and published 11 more during the year. We’ve added two more circles to our portfolio. We’ve even published an all-ages doujinshi, the first one of its kind to get an official English release.

A fraction of what 2D Market offers

On paper, this doesn’t appear to be much. After all, on average we’ve published a single doujinshi per month. Nevertheless what we’ve created is much more valuable and much less tangible: we’ve shown that there’s a way for Japanese authors to sell their independent creations directly to their international fans and that there is an English-speaking market that’s willing to support them.

With that in hand, we been approaching authors in Japan and looking to bring their work to our site. In fact, one of the reasons our launch has been so belated is the fact that one of our core staff members has moved to Japan in September 2014. Since then, he has been working tirelessly on expanding our catalog. During the last year, he has visited over a dozen doujinshi conventions in Japan and made business contacts (and personal friendships) with several doujinshi authors. While not all of them resulted in partnerships with our site, they have at least put the idea of a possible international debut in the minds of many Japanese doujinshi artists. And that is a great win for all of us who enjoy and appreciate their work and hope to one day be able to express our appreciation, one way or another.

Some of those contact did, however, result in a partnership with our site. In the following few days we’ll be making daily posts on this blog, announcing the new circles whose works we’ll be adding to our site in the following year. These announcements will be the culmination of the effort everyone here has made in the last year, and we’d would like to use this opportunity to thank the Japanese authors for putting their fate in us, and most of all, to thank you, our fans and customers, for allowing us to try to turn our passion into a business.

Marcille Meshi release

Today we have a treat for you. And an elven treat at that: Marcille Meshi by our returning circle Asaki Blog Branch Office.

This Halloween-appropriate doujinshi features dark dungeons, deadly fire-breathing monsters, cursed equipment and an anguished elven maiden. Story synopsis:

After an unfortunate encounter with a fire-breathing chimera, Marcille is left with most of her clothing ruined. Not wanting to walk through the dungeon wearing nothing but scraps, she reluctantly agrees to put on a rather raunchy outfit that the party found in a chest some time ago.

That night, she realizes to her terror that the outfit is cursed and can’t be removed. Being a versed mage, Marcille concludes that the outfit must have a succubus curse in place: it won’t come off until she orgasms from having sex.

Luckily, Laius is there to help her break the curse…

Hunt Hunt release

It can be safely said that most of doujinshi readers outside of Japan associate the entire medium with erotic content (or pornography, if you want to be more blunt). The content of our site surely hasn’t done much to affect that perception: up to this point, all the books we published featured erotic content.

However, that perception isn’t quite true. Doujinshi without erotic content make huge chunk of the produced content. Some observations even show that up to 90% of booths at the Tohou-centric doujin convention Reitasai falls outside the adult-only section. Of course, those include booths selling home-made character goods (pins, posters, cards etc.), games and cosplay, so the actual percentage of doujinshi featuring erotic content is undoubtedly higher than 10%. Still, our staff has attended many doujinshi conventions during this year and can attest to the large number of SFW books that are being sold there.

Following that notion, we decided that it would be worthwhile to publish a doujinshi without any erotic content, should the opportunity presents itself. After all, our stated goal is to bring quality doujinshi to the international audience, regardless of content. Of course, without the selling point of erotic content, we had to apply stronger scrutiny to all other aspects of the doujinshi (such as art, story, pacing etc.) when choosing what to publish. And with the book that we’re publishing today, we believe that we’ve found a truly amazing piece of independent manga.

2D Market is proud to present you the official translation of the first (and so far only) independant doujinshi by the circle strelka, “Hunt Hunt”. Set in an original fictional contemporary setting, it features detailed art, loveable characters and a quirky sense of humor.
Story synopsis:

30 years ago a rain of meteors showered the Earth and from the scattered meteorite sprung a whole plethora of bizarre fantastical creatures… that just happen to be really tasty.

Follow the members of the Hunt Club as they prepare for their school’s cultural festival. They plan to lure in and trap a bunch of innocent, unwitting young boys… by selling them tasty food. And as their club’s names implies, girls of the Hunt Club hunt their own food.

Enjoy the first doujinshi published by 2D Market that doesn’t contain any adults only material, but makes up for it with story, action, dynamic pantyshots and puns (and maybe a MonHun reference or two).

Phantom Thief Black Bunny release

After a short summer break, today we bring you a new doujinshi by circle Dainichakai: Phantom Thief Black Bunny.

This is the second doujinshi by this circle and quite different in tone from the first one, the yuri-centric Hakurei Shrine Reconstruction Plan. Instead, Phantom Thief Black Bunny takes the true-and-tried formula of “a girl gets stuck in the hole in the wall” trope and uses it out to its best effect, with the said girl getting played with from both sides of the wall at the same time.

Synopsis:

Phantom Thief Black Bunny is a mysterious masked thief, a master of infiltration and deception. She always announces her exploits beforehand, taunting and mocking the authorities and her targets.
This time, she set her eyes on a big treasure, set on display in a well guarded mansion. As always, she has a perfect plan to execute her heist.
Everyone has a fatal flaw though, and hers is clumsiness (and a big butt). She gets stuck in a fence and discovered by a security guard. Will the Black Bunny manage to squirm her way out of this perilous situation or will she become the security guards’ plaything?

Chizuru-chan Development Diary 1 release

Today we bring you a treat: the first issue in the “Chizuru-chan Development Diary” series of original (non-parody) doujinshi by our veteran circle Muchakai.

This doujinshi is just the first in the currently ongoing series. We’re already working on the second issue and plans are in place to bring over the third issue after it’s published on this year’s Summer Comiket.

Returning readers who have read our top-selling series, “Chii-chan Development Diary” are already familiar with the main theme of this work: an innocent young girl coming to terms with her sexuality and masochistic tendencies (or getting broken in and corrupted by an older dominant man, if that angle is more to your fancy). We’re absolutely delighted to be able to publish such a sweet romantic story completely uncensored and in English.

Synopsis:

On the surface, Shiina Chizuru is a proper (albeit a bit uptight) schoolgirl. Her sharp tongue and a sense of morality have gotten her in trouble with her peers and teachers on more than one occasion. Additionally, she carries a secret crush on one of her teachers, a young and dashing Tsukino.

However, everything changes after she accidentally gets involved in an incident involving embezzling school funds. In order to protect her beloved Tsukino-sensei from legal charges, she puts herself at the mercy of the fat middle-aged teacher Tamura.

Double Release – Memories and Half of Prism

Today we bring you a double release from our newcomer circle Kabayakiya.

First we have “Memories”, a short 12-page doujinshi featuring all three AnoNatsu girls.

Half Prism is different from any other doujinshi we published so far, owing to its omnibus format. It is a collection of five short stories from five different settings. These include Haganai, Rinne no Lagrange, AnoNatsu, iM@S and SAO. Each story is 4 pages long and includes at least one full-page illustration.

Delphinium Madonna 2 release

Today we bring you the sequel to Kabayakiya’s previously released SAO doujinshi, Delphinium Madonna, aptly named Delphinium Madonna 2. This time, Leafa is in the spotlight.

In addition to finally revealing the meaning behind the series cryptic title, Delphinium Madonna 2 clocks at almost double the page count than its prequel.

Whenever a new technology emerges, one of the first questions that’s going to be asked is “Can it be used for porn?” With virtual reality though, the question isn’t “Can it be”, but rather “When it will be”.

And with SAO, you already have attractive player avatars and advanced VR headsets. Sprinkle in an advanced AI that can take over an avatar and act as a real person (with some minor personality changes) you have on your hands a method to fulfill any fantasy.

Delphinium Madonna release

Today we have a special announcement: a new circle joins the growing catalog of 2D Market.

Unagimaru is a well-renowned illustrator and mangaka. Just a skim through his website reveals a sizable portfolio: 5 tankoubons (3 of which are adults only and 2 are all-ages comedy manga), illustration work for dozen eroge and over 60 doujinshi, published under his “Kabayakiya” circle.

We at 2D Market are proud to have such a prominent author featured on our site.

In the following weeks, we’ll be adding several doujinshi by “Kabayakiya” circle to our online store, all uncensored, of course. For today, we’ll be introducing the first entry: “Delphinium Madonna”.

A story about a resourceful girl doing her best to survive the SAO death game. Anybody would be more eager to risk his life to high-level monsters if he knew this pretty girl is waiting back in the guild house, ready to “relieve” the stress of the dungeon grinding.

Of course, Sachi knows that she mustn’t go all the way with her guild members. Keeping them hungry for more is a sure way to keep them loyal. But SAO is a world where one’s worth is measured in character levels, and we all know who the overleveled Mary Sue of the story is. After meeting Kirito, will Sachi change her policies?

A hot action doujinshi about things that may or may not have happened in the original web novel, but definitely couldn’t have been shown in the SAO anime.
